Jazz Poets Society organizer Eduardo Garza
The Jazz Poets Society is a group of local poets and musicians that come together each week to provide accompaniment for other poet-readers. It is an open mike session that all writers, readers, and musicians are welcome to attend for written and improvisational expression.
The Jazz Poets, who usually gather each Tuesday evening at Guadalupe Street Coffee on the West side of San Antonio, are in flux momentarily due to scheduling conflicts at the coffee joint.
In the meantime, High Wire Art Gallery owners Cindy and Ray Palmer have opened their doors to the troupe on Tuesday evenings. The event is free and open to the public.
High Wire Art Gallery is located at 326 West Josephine Street, directly across from the Josephine Theatre. Musicians generally arrive to set up around 6:30 p.m. and readers begin around 7 p.m. The open mike lasts until 9 p.m.
Last week, poets read and musicians played before gigantic, bigger-than-life-sized insect art pieces with wire frames, and aside contemporary paintings.
