PhineasandLou: Handmade Bags, Accessories and Apparel with a Conscience

Available in this neutral or lime green!

I just got the most adorable bag to take with me to the West Side Market, made by a Cleveland-area designer named Jennifer Price Davis, who has an Etsy store called PhineasandLou.  The bag, called the vegan produce sack, and it’s perfect for stashing about a dozen fresh apples, oranges or onions.  If you have a hook on a kitchen wall, you can store your purchase right inside the bag, and save that valuable space on your countertop that’s normally occupied by a large bowl or basket.  The bag is the artist’s original pattern, and is made to be durable and sturdy with extra thick stitching on and around the handles.

Jennifer also makes the most adorable apple sacks—little hand-crocheted ‘sweaters’ for your apple (or any similarly shaped fruit)—just toss it in your purse or your child’s backpack and trust that it will be in perfect condition when you’re ready to enjoy it.  She makes a cute yellow one for bananas too.  Tea wallets are perfect for corralling a handful of tea bags to carry in your purse or keep in your desk drawer.

PhineasandLou has something for everyone, even if you aren’t a foodie.  I particularly like the crocheted face scrubbies made of vegan-friendly yarn (many of her products are made this way).  They’re super plush and soft, designed to be gentler on your face than a cotton washcloth.  Or make a statement with some wearable crochet that is anything but the scary stuff your Aunt So-and-So made when you were a kid.  Whether it’s a funky brooch or a cowl-neck scarf, you’ll be outfitted in urban, casual-cool accessories sure to make you smile.

Whether your PhineasandLou purchase is a gift for yourself or someone else, it will come wrapped in white paper, accented with a heart and wrapped with a raffia bow.  So, ship directly to your recipient with confidence that their adorable present will come packaged with love.  Worldwide shipping is a reasonable $7 so you can enjoy an apple sack, around the globe too.

About the Artist

I'm an artistic/creative person, a wife to a great husband, mom of the best six year old ever, and by day I work in career services with university students. I was born and raised in Cleveland and spent most of my life in the Cleveland Heights and University Heights areas. I've always loved art and creating things so I was excited to find Etsy.com where I could share what I make, literally with the whole world, while still working full time and taking care of my family. I love creating items that can make an ordinary moment a delicious one. It warms my heart when I make say, an Apple Sack for someone who wants to surprise a loved one. Every time they grab an apple, they'll remember they are loved. At the same time, if they're like me, they can drag that apple around in their lunch tote for a couple days, and it's still ready to eat! I find it a privilege that I get to be a part of that moment and I'm so thankful for it!

What is Etsy?

Etsy.com is an online community made of thousands of members with a love for handmade. Individuals all over the world can operate an online store through the site, where customers can purchase handmade, one-of-a-kind items using Paypal or a credit card—usually at a lower cost and higher quality than your local mega-store. Whether you're shopping for that extra special gift for someone you love, or want to buy a t-shirt that's like no other, you should check it out. One of my favorite features is the "Shop Local" search that brings up the Etsy shops of people in your city.
