Will Ferrari president Montezemolo lead push for an Italian Olympics 2020?

[Rome, Italy - Feb. 19] According to a variety of Italian news reports, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo is the man Rome, Italy is looking to spearhead the world famous city's bid to host the 2020 Olympics.

The IOC [International Olympic Committee] is expected to name the host city two years' time.

The news Ferrari President Montezemolo was the front runner to lead the initiative to snag a 2020 Olympic Games for Italy came straight from Gianni Petrucci, president of CONI (Italian National Olympic Committee).

He is the latest person to put his backing behind the Ferrari president: "Luca di Montezemolo is the right man; he's one of the best-known Italians in the world," Petrucci told Italian news agency ANSA.

"With him our chances would increase. I'm in complete agreement with Gianni Letta and Gianni Alemanno. Now let's wait for his reply."

What do you think of Montezemolo?

Amid rumors that the Italian government has pushed fro him to step down as the head of Ferrari for his inability to pull through the F1 race team to consistent victory at the Formula 1 race track but limited growth in Ferrari sales to the private market sector internationally this past 3 years (sales last year alone were up 5.4 percent–the 6573 units delivered to dealers were Ferrari's most ever) is he the right man to act as a closer for the 2011 Olympic Games to come to their fair city?

While all roads definitely lead to Rome, choosing Montezemolo to drive the bus rather than remain at the wheel of the Ferrari corporation may or may not be a good decision.
