Hot Car News!

Citroen is going green... fast --

The Citroën Survolt is now a part of world history as the all-electric green exotic car has entered the race at Le Mans Classic.

For those who still think the transportation industry will not be affected by the green car movement, it looks like (and in a big way) that you are wrong.

Whether the car places well or out performs any other this year is not the point: the green exotic car entering the race is what makes history, win, lose, or draw.

As for the impact of green news on the auto industry, the word is slowly getting out that car companies are finally starting to bend to market demands for better cars.

Ferrari is making a green exotic car.

So is Lamborghini.

So is Mercedes-Benz.

So is Renault (and with a surprisingly hot car model).

Bentley, Lotus, Rolls Royce, Lexus...

All are making high tech ultra luxury or sports cars that are experiments in sustainable engineering with the goal of reducing dependency on natural resources and producing little to no emissions the goal.

And now, this sexy eco news is coming out about Citroën.

Regarding the Citroën Survolt, Autoblog Green writers pretty much so echoed our opinion of the new green exotic car, saying:

We thought the Citroën Survolt Concept was pretty cool when we first saw it at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year.

We think it's much, much cooler now, though.

Why?

Perhaps because the crazy French automaker has seen fit to make the all-electric machine into a real race car that will hit the track at the Le Mans Classic on July 10th.

They go on to report:

The electric racing car sports a full tube frame with a carbon fiber body and a completely flat underbody... which is all well and good, but the real news comes from the powertrain. Dual electric motors push out 300 horsepower from zero to 5,000 rpm. But it's the torque of electric motors that really impresses, and the Survolt reportedly has enough of it to dispatch the run to 60 miles per hour in under five seconds.

Power comes from two lithium ion battery packs that weigh in at over 300 pounds each and offer 31 kilowatts of energy storage. The Citroën Survolt can manage 124 miles per charge, which can be performed in two hours with a specific charger or in 10 hours using a normal 220-volt outlet.

Still not convinced green exotic cars are a viable product to bring to market or for racing purposes?

Check out the press release -- it is time to rethink your opinion of green autos.

PRESS RELEASE

CITROËN SURVOLT MAKES ITS TRACK DEBUT AT THE LE MANS CLASSIC

Citroën's stunning all-electric racing car concept, Survolt, will come to life on 10th July when it makes its first ever on-track appearance at the Le Mans Classic - piloted by experienced female racing driver Vanina Ickx.

Extremely rare in the world of racing, Survolt's full electric drivetrain allows the model to combine dynamic, sporting performance with environmental consideration. Specially developed with compact dimensions (3.85m long, 1.87m wide, 1.2m high), Survolt features a tubular chassis, a flat underside with an extractor and full carbon bodywork, which all combines to make it a genuine electric racing car.

Propelled by two electric motors with a combined power of 300bhp from 0 to 5,000rpm, Survolt's lightweight frame (1.15 tonnes) is capable of exceptional performance, with a top speed of 260kph (162mph) and a 0-100kph (0-62mph) time of under five seconds.

Survolt's twin 140kg lithium-ion batteries each boast a 31kw capacity and can cover 200km (124 miles). Survolt can be re-charged in just two hours with a specific power supply, or in 10 hours on the standard 220 volt network.

Citroën is inviting all automotive enthusiasts to visit the Le Mans circuit on Saturday 10th July, at 1.30pm, to watch Survolt's track debut.
