Exotic cars are special creations for sure. Most of the premier exotics are built by hand, including Ferraris. One of the fastest cars in the world is the Ferrari 458 Italia. Powered by a hand-built 4.5-liter V8 engine, the Italia generates a mind-bending 562 hp and neck jerking 398 lb-ft of torque. Auto Week writes, "If you thought it was a painstaking process to put it together, you'd be right." Why? Because the technical skill required to build a Ferrari engine from start to finish is so precise, it's a science and art in and of itself.

What we have here is a 12-minute video of Italian natives completing the heart of the new prancing horse. Luckily, subtitles are included; most of the video is in Italian.
The engineers wear white gloves in what looks like a Silicon Valley factory. There's no dirt or oil anywhere, and all of the engineers are in red Ferrari shirts that look like they just came off the hangar.
Many of the key systems are checked manually first, then again by a computer, making sure the timing and tolerances are precise.
The Ferrari video is a testament to the Italian auto builders from Maranello, where every Ferrari engine is built by their capable hands. Granted, the process of assembling Ferraris by hand takes more time than a Henry Ford style assembly line, but that is part of the allure of buying one... owning a limited production automobile that is fast as all get out and was built by master craftsmen in a quaint community infused with the history of auto racing makes Ferraris exclusive.
After watching the video of the Ferrari engine build, we can only say -- "I WANT ONE" about the 458.
