Exotic Car News: Formula 1 about to confirm going green according to Ferrari?

Exotic Car News!

Formula One racing cars to go green a surprising auto news announcement leaked early --

Is the rumor being spread by the Ferrari corporation true? Are Formula One race cars about to go green -- officially? If you ask the Ferrari corporation the essential answer seems to be the going green move is a definite "It's likely..." and that the F1 auto racing organization may confirm the big green press announcement about next gen race cars being more eco friendly and trend setting by or before the end of the week.

BBC Sports has released the following details [Dec. 4]:

Formula 1 stakeholders have reached an agreement for grand prix cars to use a new type of 'green' engine from 2013.

The sport will switch from the current 2.4-litre V8s to 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo engines with energy recovery systems and fuel restrictions.

The move is an attempt to mirror the trend towards fuel-efficiency in road cars and to popularise it, increasing public demand for such engines.

The new rules could be confirmed by governing body the FIA on 10 December.

Mercedes and Ferrari had been reluctant to agree to the move as recently as a month ago, believing that it was an unnecessary expense at a time when F1 was trying to reduce costs.

But a spokesman for Ferrari told BBC Sport the rules had been agreed and he would be "surprised" if it was not announced by the world council [by or before the end of the week].

He admitted Ferrari had concerns about the move on cost grounds but added: "An agreement is there, and when there is an agreement you work accordingly."

If the F1 auto racing organization does make a switch to using cleaner fuels and green technology, it will undoubtedly affect future exotic car manufacturing, production and design competition.

At the present time, both Ferrari (who races in F1) and their competitor Lamborghini (who does not) have confirmed they will produce green exotic cars by or before 2015 to meet the growing commercial demand for politically correct automobiles.

[Translation = They say the governments in Europe and the United States -- two of their main exotic car sales markets -- are forcing their hand as the general public clamours for green automobiles and environmental protection.]
