Bugatti tires cost more than a new 2012 Nissan Versa?

Bugatti tires cost more than a brand new 2012 Nissan Versa. Yes, that is right. Spectators at the 2011 New York International Auto Show at the Jacob Javits Center in NYC were a bit floored to find out that the tires on the one of the world's most extreme exotic cars actually cost more than a reliable daily driver Japanese auto import.

If you are going to compare luxury and affordability, though, then exotic cars will probably not be your cup of tea. Comparing exotic, high-performance sports cars to common sedans when it comes to practicality is the auto world equivalent to blasphemy.

Why? Because a Bugatti will run you approximately $1.4 million -- a high-dollar price tag that will cost you as much or more than a private mansion in a high-end neighborhood. Comparing an exclusive limited production model luxury product like a Bugatti to a mass-produced automobile like the Nissan Versa or any other rice-burning automobile assembled predominantly by machine is like comparing poster art you buy out of the back of a van to original oil paintings guarded under lock and key in an exclusive museum collection.

Bugatti is essentially the most expensive exotic car and the Nissan Versa one of least expensive cars; both might have been on display at the Expo, but crikes. They might as well have been one out back under a shade tree and the other exaulted on the world's largest pedestal.

Bugatti manufactured some of the fastest cars in the world, commonly produced with 1000+ horsepower engines (often fed by 4 bi-turbochargers). Lightening fast, the zero to 60 mph speed is a seat blistering in 2.5 seconds.

And yes, to replace the tires on a Bugatti will in fact cost you more money than it would take to buy a Nissan Versa.

The 2012 Nissan Versa Sedan has a sticker price MSRP of $10,990 US. While the Bugatti driver is an exclusive client, likely to be courted from the pool of billionaire boys club members, the Japan automakers are looking to market to  people with a family who are short on cash and interested in the ecological benefits of fuel efficiency, which (by the way) on a Nissan Versa is 37 mpg.

If you are worried about the fuel mileage on a Bugatti for either cost or environmental impact, don't bother to ask.

And, while the safety rating on the Versa is supposed to be excellent, the driver's main concern if they crash a Bugatti does not seem to be so much for the consideration of keeping a driver or passenger alive through a crash. It seems to be with how rare the automobile is as a limited number production car.

If a driver wrecks a Bugatti, he is out quite a bit of cash. Other model owners position will improve, however, as laws of scarcity are impacted when supply lessens and the ultra rich demands.

To that end, you could buy 100 Nissan Versa models for every one Bugatti exotic car in your garage.

If you have that king of cash lying around, though, I'd recommend buying the Bugatti and planting a few extra trees.

Not only will you join the list of celebrity car owners (Simon Cowell of X Factor and American Idol fame owns one), it takes up far less floor space in your garage and will help make your gas-guzzling car purchase more PC.
