Dragon Wagon sold at auction, not ultra luxury exotic car once owned by John Lennon --
John Lennon has been dead and gone for 30 years. The legendary rock star was famous in part for owning his seriously cool ultra-luxury exotic car: a 1965 Rolls Royce Phantom limousine the green celebrity had painted in wild psychedelic colors and patterns. But did you know that he also had more conservative tastes when it came to picking out cars he would drive himself -- rather than when he was driven by chauffeur to a red carpet event or guys night our with The Beatles clubbing? One might even go so far as to say his tastes went from fine champagne and red carpet night to bad booze, shag carpet, and things far more pedantic. For curious fans of The Beatles, the news that John Lennon's car was headed to auction had everyone excited -- until they found out it was not the Rolls Royce being sold -- it was he daily driver Dragon Wagon. [Dec. 17]
During his final years of life, John Lennon and wife Yoko Ono cruised the downtown city streets of New York in a muddled green 1972 Chrysler Town and Country Station Wagon -- not a red hot Ferrari, a spicy sports car, or even a cute Volkswagen Beetle.
Yes, we said it. *shudder* John Lennon drove a Dragon Wagon, for sure -- the celebrity car rumors have been confirmed.

Autoguide.com reports the mean green machine went up for auction this month, just in time for the wave of John Lennon nostalgia that has come from Rolling Stone publishing the previously undisclosed tapes from his final interview. The entertainment journals have been going wild talking about John Lennon and the 30th anniversary of his death -- and bashing Paul McCartney for ordering a green car and having it flown to him by private jet (making him one of the most talked about least green celebrities).
Green Celebrity News: John Lennon last interview featured in Rolling Stone Magazine
This green station wagon of John Lennon takes the cake in being green, for sure, without ever having been the least bit eco friendly. Unless, that is, you were using it as a house. Then, it would have been groovy.
As for the car itself and it's condition as an investment grade automobile for that discerning auto enthusiast... scratch that... Beatles memorabilia collector, Auto Guide says:
Battered and bruised from a life on Manhattan streets, the car was sold by Yoko after John’s death and since 1996 it’s had just a single owner. However, now that Lennon has been thrust into the spotlight once again, the car has come out of obscurity, to be auctioned by Braswell Galleries in New England. The Town & Country is essentially in the same condition it likely was when John and Yoko owned it and the seller still has the original New York State title and registration documents.
Regarding celebrity car trivia, John Lennon and Yoko Ono did not aspire to own any cool cars, it seems. Exotic cars were simply not their thing. Regarding the type of car John Lennon really wanted before he died so unexpectedly, Auto Guide further reports:
If John had lived, it’s likely this car would have less significance, excerpts from his personal memoirs indicate he and Yoko were looking at replacing it with a then new Mercedes-Benz W123 300 Touring.
