The Carrie Murray Nature Center in Baltimore is holding their 11th Annual Bug Fest event on Saturday, September 11, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Bug Fest will be held rain or shine.
The nature center was originally created in the 1980s with a donation from then Baltimore Orioles player Eddie Murray and named for his late mother.
If you have never been there, it’s a great place. It is filled the creepy-crawly things that scare, amaze and delight children of all ages.
Wildlife that is injured is often rehabbed at Carrie Murray Nature Center, including reptiles, amphibians and birds. There are hawks, turkey vultures, owls and even a Raven there! There are snakes, lizards, turtles and pet birds as well. And, don’t forget the insect zoo! This part of the nature center is home to several species of cockroaches, millipedes, stick bugs, tarantulas and more.
Bug Fest is an event with cockroach races, insect cuisine, bug hikes, insect crafts, food, jewelry, apparel and trinkets. Who wouldn’t want to see a cockroach race? And if you’ve never eaten a bug, here’s your chance! They are high in protein.
The nature center is tucked away in the spacious Gwynn’s Falls/Leakin Park. The location of the nature center is 1901 Ridgetop Road, Baltimore MD 21207.
The event is open to the public and would be an inexpensive way to take your kids on an educational and fun outing. Admission is $5 for four years and up, $1 for three and under. For more information about this event, contact Lloyd Tydings.
