Meet Adele Dubois, talented romance erotica author
Adele Dubois is a former reporter, newspaper and magazine columnist, and foreign correspondent published in the Caribbean, UK, and USA.
When not on the beach, or near the quiet shores of a Delaware bay, she and her family enjoy their Pennsylvania home where she is working on her next novel.
Sally: “I had a chance to talk with Adele about her latest Desert series. Welcome to the Romance Examiner, Adele. Let’s jump right in with a question about what excites you about writing romance?”
Adele: “Thank you, Sally. It’s great to be here. Romance offers the freedom to create unique stories in any setting, sub-genre or time period, and the hero and heroine will always overcome obstacles to live happily-ever-after.”
Sally: “In your Desert series you have a unique storyline. What can you share with readers without giving away too much?”
Adele: “My Desert stories feature a GPS navigation system that has the power to grant wishes. Guy, the GPS navigator, isn’t a genie, but takes wishing upon a star to a magical new level by locating whatever the heroine needs most. Readers say they’d love to have a GPS like Guy. DESERT FEVER, set in the Mojave Desert, is the first book in the series.”
Sally: “I think that is such a fun premise for a series. What’s the next book coming out in this series?”
Adele: “The sequel is a stand-alone story called DESERT WILD. In book two, Guy plays an integral role in helping the heroine, Caitlyn, find the hero, Sonny Wild Horse, who is stranded at nightfall in the vast Sonora, America’s most hostile desert.’
Sally: “I’m sure readers will find it just as exciting as the other books in this series. Readers always want to know if an author has always written fiction. What about you?”
Adele: “I wrote non-fiction for many years as a reporter, feature writer and columnist before writing my first novel. The transition to fiction wasn’t easy. Fiction is much harder to write than non-fiction because the author must create every element of the story from her imagination while also following the rules of storytelling.”
Sally: “I agree. I write both and non-fiction is pretty straight-forward writing of facts and data. Before I let you go, do you have any words of advice for writers just starting out?”
Adele: “Editors say they want stories that are highly original and well-written. Read lots of books on the craft of writing.
“Write, rewrite, polish and re-polish your work as many times as it takes to make the story shine. Before submitting to an editor or agent, ask a few writers who are further along in their careers for their observations and suggestions. (Friends and family members do not count as critique partners unless they are professional writers.) Revise again. Re-polish. When your story is as perfect as possible, begin the submission process. If your story is self-edited, you will have an advantage over competing submissions. Prove to an editor or agent that you’re professional, right from the start.”
Sally: “One last questions, what's in the future for your readers?”
Adele: “I’m pleased that my paranormal romance
DESERT FEVER is a reviewer Top Pick and has received consistent Five Star reviews.
DESERT WILD is a new release from Ellora’s Cave. Other projects are also in the works. Expect a few surprises in 2009 and 2010.”
Sally: “I’d like to thank Adele for taking time out of her schedule to spend a little time with the Romance Examiner. Be sure to visit her website and of course buy her series!"
