
Comic books and graphic novels are becoming a much more highly regarded form of reading than they had been in the past. If your teens are avid comic readers, be happy that they are reading something of substance.
Where do you go to find the best and newest comic books and graphic novels? Here is a list of the best comic book stores in New York City (in alphabetical order):
1. Chameleon Comics & Cards - 3 Maiden Lane (downtown Manhattan). Full service store specializing in comic books, graphic novels, trading cards and much more. Free membership program which give members 20% discount on all comic books.
2. Comic Den - 80-62 Lefferts Blvd (Kew Gardens, Queens). A very helpful mom and pop comics store that also sells supplies, collectable toys, models, statues, bust, wobblers, non-sport cards.
3. Desert Island - 540 Metropolitan Ave.(Williamsburg, Brooklyn). Not only do they sell independent and alternative comics, art books and prints, but they also have book signings, live music and parties. Not your typical comic book store.
4. Forbidden Planet - 840 Broadway (Union Square, Manhattan). Very cool store (in very cool neighborhood) specializing in not only comics but in graphic novels, toys, manga, anime and role playing games.
5. Jim Hanley's Universe - 4. W. 33rd St. (Herald Square, Manhattan). Very large and progressive store that stocks a full range of comics and related merchandise. Good selection of independent and international comics. Also a Staten Island location.
6. Midtown Comics - 200 W. 40th St. (Times Square, Manhattan). The largest retailer of comic books in the U.S. and this is its primary location. They carry the largest selection of comics, graphic novels and manga in NYC and elsewhere. A real comic geek can spend days here without getting bored.
7. Rocketship - 208 Smith St. (Cobble Hill, Brooklyn). Friendly neighborhood comic book store. Nice staff, great for families and kids.
8. St. Mark's Comics - 11 St. Marks Place (East Village, Manhattan). Although small it has a large stock of comics, posters, books, t-shirts and toys.
Everyone should be able to find a comic book store in New York City that is most suited to their individual taste.
