If you live in or near New York City, going to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade with your family is something that must be done at least once. However, if you are going this year, you better take note of the new parade route being used for the 83rdThanksgiving Day Parade in 2009.
Most likely the Thanksgiving Day Parade route was changed because of the new pedestrian mall added to Broadway during 2009. Instead of the entire parade route being only on Central Park West and Broadway, there are now more streets involved:
1. The parade will still begin at 77th Street and Cental Park west and head south to Columbus Circle.
2. The parade will now turn east on Central Park South and go down until it turns south on 7th Avenue.
3. The parade will turn east on 42nd street and continue there until 6th Avenue (Avenue of the Americas).
4. The parade will then travel south on 6th Avenue until 34th street.
5. Finally, the parade will head west on 34th street to Herald Square and end at 34th street and 7th Avenue.
The Parade begins at 9:00am on Thanksgiving day, November 26, 2009. It is difficult to predict the best viewing spots this year since most of the route has changed. However, one thing that shouldn't change is that it is a fun, memorable activity for families with children or teens of any age. You might also want to check out the Balloon Inflation festivities the night before.
