Scott Kazmir represented the Rays a year ago and got the win for the American League. How far away from an All-Star game does Kazmir seem right now? No Rays’ starters on this list. Notice one big omission. It had to be done.

The starting pitchers:

  • SP – Roy Halladay, Blue Jays (injured)
  • SP – Mark Buehrle, White Sox
  • SP – Zack Greinke, Royals
  • SP – Josh Beckett, Red Sox
  • SP – Kevin Millwood, Rangers
  • SP – Felix Hernandez, Mariners
  • SP – Justin Verlander, Tigers
  • SP – Jered Weaver, Angels
  • SP – Edwin Jackson, Tigers (replacement for Halladay)

Obviously selecting one pitcher for the honor of actually starting the game depends on how much rest each guy has heading into the break, but as of right now my choice is Zack Greinke. He’s cooled down a bit after his scorching hot start, but he still deserves it.

Go to the slideshow for comments on each starting pitcher.

Move on to part four: Relief pitchers

Part five: Final five vote

Part two: Reserve catchers and outfielders

Part one: Reserve infielders

American League All Star starting pitchers
These starters are having All Star worthy 2009 seasons and Joe Maddon should seriously consider every one of them for the team. I'm guessing the AL Cy Young Award winner will come from this group.
