Like its predecessor the "The Da Vinci Code" this movie, also based on a Dan Brown novel, is stirring up religious controversy from the Vatican to the ire of individual believers like Bill Donahue.

"Angels and Demons" was mired in controversy from film production to release. Producer Ron Howard was prohibited from using two Vatican churches to film the movie. Ultimately, the churches were re-constructed on sets. The production is drawing fire after its release - as believers argue the movie re-creates history and could lead people to believe there is truth behind the fiction. However, the Vatican has been silent recently regarding the movie. An attempt to avoid drawing attention to the production? When "The Da Vinci Code" was released the Vatican publicly condemned the movie and banned its followers from viewing the movie. The Da Vinci Code" was a huge box office hit. "The Da Vinci Code" delved into an alleged relationship between Jesus and Mary Magdalene. The Vatican appears to be taking a role of dismissive resentment to "Angels and Demons" attempting to avoid drawing attention to the production. Perhaps that will be more effective in dissuading its followers from flocking to the theaters to see this movie? The movie centers on a religious theme as controversial as its predecessor. "Angles and Demons" alleges that that the Illuminati, a secret society was brutalized and massacred by the Catholic Church.

"Angels and Demons" has a star-studded cast including the return of Tom Hanks as symbologist Robert Langdon. The movie also features Ewan McGregor, Ayelet Zurer, Stellan Skarsgard, Masasa Moyo, and Kristof Konrad. The stand alone fast moving script is premiering on the big screen on May 15th 2009.
