With Final Fantasy VII released on the Playstation Network for the Playstation 3 and the PSP, fans of the series can finally get one of the greatest role playing games ever in digital format. However, there are some interesting features buried within the menus of this game that not even Sony has been bragging about.
Sure, the normal options are there, such as changing the screen size, making it bigger, or stretching it out to fit on wide screen televisions. But the really cool feature is the ability to speed up the loading times.
In previous PSOne releases, the entire game was emulated from the Playstation game, meaning even the loading times remained the same even though it didn't have to load from a disk. Therefore, some lengthy load times could be seen. Check out Street Fighter Alpha if you don't believe me. Anyway, it seems that moving forward, Sony will be adding a feature that can be turned on with the Playstation button (located in the center of a Playstation 3 controller, or to the left of the volume buttons on a PSP) that will allow the game to load faster than the disk versions of the game.
It looks like Sony is finally starting to take this whole "download Playstation 1 games" thing seriously, and that's great for gamers.
