Anaheim goalie Jonas Hiller had a perfect playoff debut with 35 saves as the Ducks scored twice in the third period to upset the San Jose Sharks, in San Jose, 2-0 for the first game of the opening-round series.
The winning goal came when Ryan Getzlaf set up captain Scott Niedermayer for a power-play goal that broke the scoreless tie early in the third. With 2:25 to play, Getzlaf added his own goal to put the game away.
San Jose, now down 0-1 in the series, will have to regroup after giving momentum to a playoff-tested group of veterans in Anaheim. Being shutout was not the way the Sharks wanted to silence the Ducks and any uprising thoughts they have.
The second game of the series will take place on Saturday, 7 PM PT in San Jose.
