Due to the overwhelming success of last week's Chinese Gymnastics summer camp, G & J Speedway Gymnastics in Concord will be offering an additional week of the same curriculum in July. Last week's camp, which was attended by 7 adopted Chinese children from the Charlotte area, included  gymnastics basics on all of the equipment, floor exercises, Chinese dance,  Chinese character drawing instruction, art, and Chinese games. Throughout the entire camp, children were given instruction in Mandarin Chinese, learning basic phrases, counting, and terms for gymnastic moves and body parts.

Coach Xiao and Coach Ding, owners of Speedway Gymnastics, decided to add another week of the camp at the request of parents. The adopted Chinese children who attended learned so much, not only about gymnastics, but also about their heritage. Tracy Hensley, mother of 6 year-old Cate, spoke highly of her daughter's week of Chinese Gymnastics. "Through this experience, my daughter has fallen in love with her birth culture. What more could you ask from a camp?"

Though most of the children who attended the first camp session last week will also be attending the camp in July, new students ages 4-10 are welcome. No gymnastics training or Mandarin Chinese experience is necessary, and children need not be adopted Chinese to attend. Coach Xiao and Coach Ding will work individually with students to insure that each child has a fulfilling camp experience.

The camp is scheduled for July 13-17 and will meet each day from 9am until noon. A snack and drink will be provided. The cost is $125 per child for Speedway Gymnastics members and $130 per child for non-members. A $60 deposit is required to reserve a space in the camp.

For more info: contact Coach Xiao or Coach Ding at 704-455-1898 or at Speedwaygym@aol.com. You may also stop by the gym at 6041 Victory Lane Concord, NC 28027.
