Edie Falco is the first in my series of celebrity adoptive parent profiles. A single mother, she has said that her dog actually inspired her to adopt. "I have this dog named Marley, and it is a kind of love I had never known. I have a hard time believing Marley did not come from my body. I know that sounds insane, but I feel that connected to her. She made me realize I wanted to adopt children," Falco said. She has also made it clear that she was more interested in raising a child than the process of birthing a biological child.
Here are the facts about this adoptive mom:
The media would have us believe that the majority of adoptions in the United States, especially those by celebrities, are international adoptions. According to Richard Fischer, publisher of Adoption Today Magazine, Americans adopted only 22,000 children internationally in 2005, compared to the 121,000 kids adopted domestically. Edie Falco is one of the many celebrities who have chosen to adopt either domestically or internationally.
