Often asked, yet not easily answered.  Peak Alaska cruise season is fast approaching and deals are everywhere.  If this is your first cruise to Alaska, you are likely trying to figure out what to wear.  You may wonder what the weather is like, having never traveled to the region.  Is it freezing cold?  What about sun and wind?  There are a few things to consider when deciding what to wear on your cruise:

The weather in Alaska

From March through September, the temperatures generally range from 50 to 70 degrees.  You may see rain, but snow is not likely during the peak cruise seasons.   The weather in Alaska is considered variable, and not very predictable.  There are days when it will feel hot at 70+ degrees, so dressing in layers is the easy way to go.  Start with just a t-shirt underlayer, add a long sleeved shirt and top it off with a water-proof windbreaker.

The activities in Alaska

More than likely, you will be doing some light hiking in Alaska.   Invest in a good pair of water-resistant hiking shoes, and put an umbrella in your pack.   You want to keep your feet dry while exploring.  Another item to consider is binoculars to spot out wildlife that you may miss otherwise.

The glorious sun in Alaska

If you love the sun, you will enjoy the extra long hours of daylight.  Be prepared for at least 15-21 hours of sunlight per day during the summer.  This means that you should bring your best sunglasses.  Last but not least, don’t forget the sunscreen!  The sun is potent in Alaska.
