Fugitive Roy Hyatt wanted for child pornography

Roy Hyatt is a sexual offender who has absconded from the Florida Department of Corrections. He is wanted for charges of possession of child pornography and authorities believe that he might still be in the Florida area, he may also be in New York, though at this point, he could be anywhere.

 His last known whereabouts were Bradenton, Florida. Hyatt was charged with Lewd and Lascivious acts on a Child under the age of 16. It is believed that Roy Hyatt is at an extreme risk for offending again.

In 1996, Roy Hyatt was babysitting various children in Bradenton, Florida. He attended church and was able to gain the trust of many parents. On one trip, Roy Hyatt was entrusted with the care of three young girls, age 12, 11, and 9 years old. He took the girls to a beach and molested them in full daylight, while on the beach. He plead guilty and was convicted, and like many other registered sex offenders, he did not spend the rest of his life behind bars.

In 2003, the FBI was involved in an undercover child pornography sting called, “Operation Peer Pressure.” The operation was under the FBI division “Innocent Images Task Force’ and focused on using file sharing programs to identify perpetrators sharing and distributing child pornography. Their operation led them straight to the home computer of registered sex offender, Roy Hyatt.

Authorities seized Hyatt’s computer, including disks, videotapes, and a large number of 8mm child pornography films. In the beginning, Hyatt appeared to be cooperative with the FBI, however, he refused to give an official statement. Authorities state that he only pretended to cooperate, meanwhile, the FBI built their case against the registered sex offender, by the time they had their case ready and issued a warrant for Roy Hyatt’s arrest, in May of 2004, Hyatt fled. Authorities say that Roy Hyatt lied to officials, including his lawyer, disposed of everything he owned, and vanished.

Roy Hyatt is of thin build and wears prescription glasses. He has a scar on his upper lip, and one on his left cheek. There are tattoos on his left hand as well as one on the finger of the same hand. It’s possible that he is still attending church, and offering his babysitting services after gaining the trust of parents.

On May 13, 2004, a federal criminal complaint was filed against Roy Hyatt at the United States District Court, Middle District of Florida, Tampa Division.  On that day, a federal warrant was issued for Roy Hyatt's arrest.  If you have information regarding the whereabouts of Roy Hyatt, contact your local FBI division.
