Those magnificent bastards at
the Enzian are at it again, as the Cult Classics series comes around once more. Thanks to these great monthly showings, local residents are blessed with the opportunity to see their favorite movie the way they were meant to be seen (in a big dark room on a huge screen with a lot of speakers and on 35mm film). Also fun is being able to bring friends to these movies and introducing them to something they've never seen.
And trust me, it happens. No matter how popular the film in question is, there will be someone out there who hasn't seen it. There is someone out there who has never seen
The Godfather, and it would blow them away. Maybe you know this person. Well, it's time to call them and tell them to clear their schedules for a night at the Enzian Theater in Maitland, Florida. For $5 they get to see a 35mm print of a classic movie, and if they bring a few bucks more, there's an array of beers to choose from to enjoy while watching the movie.
And this installment of the Cult Classics brings us
The Jerk, quite possibly one of the funniest movies ever made. Before Steve Martin grew happy and fat (figuratively speaking) on that
Cheaper by the Dozen and
Pink Panther money, he was a daring, young, crazy comedian looking to push boundaries and make people laugh (and not just little children). His first film, The Jerk, launched him into movie stardom and got him started on a string of awesome films like
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,
Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid and
My Blue Heaven (pure genius right there).

So if you have a friend that only knows Steve Martin as that unfunny guy in all the family movies (well, the ones not starring that unfunny Eddie Murphy fella), here's your chance to learn 'em on some Martin Madness. And if all of your friends are hip (like mine), then just tell them that The Jerk is playing at the Enzian tomorrow and we're all meeting at
the Eden Bar at 8 o'clock.
