The Cult Classics series at the Enzian Theater in Maitland offers opportunities for people to see 35 mm prints of films on a big screen. If you're too young to get the chance to Planet of the Apes in theaters the first time around, or for whatever reason you missed out on sex, lies & videotape when it played twenty years ago, the Enzian Theater provides the chance to make up for these horrible mistakes. Thanks to the Cult Classics series, I have been able to see (on a big screen for the very first time) The Thing, Die Hard, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, The Hudsucker Proxy and The Big Lebowski, and each one for a killer $5 each.
And the Cult Classics strike again! On May 26th at 9:30 PM, the Enzian will show a print of Robocop. Directed by Paul Verhoeven (Starship Troopers, Total Recall), Robocop is the heart warming story of a police officer and his new, awesome, robotic existence. Robocop is a ton of fun, with a cool story and lots of great action (and violent as Hell. This movie originally received an X-rating for violence before it was cut down to an R-rating). And sure you could just watch the DVD of this film, but this is your chance to see a cool movie in an excellent theater.
Click here to purchase tickets in advance, which is always a smart thing to do. Be advised that you will want to get to the theater early. A line almost always forms by 9 PM to get into the single screen theater, and the tiered seating makes for some awkward viewing if you don't get the right spots. You're best bet will be to order your tickets in advance, get to the Enzian around 8 PM, and get yourself a couple of pre-movie drinks at the Eden Bar. Who knows, maybe you'll befriend some other local film lovers and unite in your love for violent 80's action satire.
Check out the original trailer from 1987 below, which hilariously uses music from The Terminator, another cyborg hit from now defunct Orion Pictures.
