The world of the today is fraught with problems.  Global warming, starvation, malnutrition, deforestation, topsoil erosion, and pollution threaten the continued existence of our planet every day. One charity foundation, however, seeks to tackle all of these problems head on.

The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation has a mission to plant 18 billion fruit trees across the world. The founder and president is world renown nutrition expert David Wolfe, author of popular books such as The Sunfood Diet Success System and Naked Chocolate. " Seven years ago, I had the idea of starting a non-profit that could be actively engaged in healing the planet by planting trees with edible parts. This idea eventually became The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation."

By planting orchards at public schools in low-income areas, the foundation provides the opportunity for environmental education and gives the children and teachers healthy choices for lunch. Trees are also planted at animal sanctuaries, providing for the animals shade, an opportunity to forage, and a nutritious dietary addition. At these sanctuaries, resources which are normally spent on fruit will instead go towards bettering the lives of the animals. In addition, the FTPF also has a reservation preservation program that donates orchards to low-income areas on Native American reservations. Furthermore, part of the foundation plants trees at healing facilities such as hospitals, drug rehab centers, and health centers. It is the hope that the harvest will give patients access to fresh organic produce to facilitate their recovery. Finally, the FTPF donates orchards internationally to provide hunger relief. These orchards work specifically to provide struggling families with the food needed to survive. As of right now orchards have been planted in over 20 states and internationally in Kenya, India and Brazil.

You can help further the mission of this foundation by giving a tax-deductible donation over the phone at 831.621.8096 or online at ftpf.org. You can also sign up on their website and volunteer to plant trees in your area or sign up here and donate with no cost to you.

This foundation supports sustainable agriculture, helps to preserve the earth and provides people with the opportunity to eat nutritious organic food. In our current worldly state, can we afford not to support a cause like this? Every dollar can make a difference because every fruit tree can change someone’s life for the better.
