It wasn’t until Us Weekly published an exclusive video of Michael Jackson's hair on fire during a 1984 Pepsi commercial accident that the true depth of the pop icon’s obsession set in.
Soon after demand for both photos and videos of Michael Jackson with his hair on fire surfaced on the Internet.
The latest photo (above) was taken when Jackson arrived at the hospital by ambulance following his Pepsi commercial pyrotech accident.
Seen below, the Us Weekly Michael Jackson video depicting Jackson's hair on fire seems to satisfy more than morbid curiosity. People do seem to be interested in something more than pain and suffering, notwithstanding the fact that people continue to search for Jackson death and autopsy photos and the like.
Given the Orwellian date, it may be a surprise to older adults that anyone would want to revisit the pyrotechnic accident. It should have been obvious in 1984 just how serious it was, but it was not to the mesmerized fans.
In reality, the fascination for the once rare footage shows a Michael Jackson whose image never died.
The sequined and gloved Michael Jackson was at the top of his game with the album and MTV video Thriller during which time he filmed a Pepsi commercial. During the sixth take, a stunt went amiss and Michael Jackson's hair caught on fire. Jackson kept performing...unaware. This, more than Jackson's burning scalp captured on video, is the amazing part.
Most young adults and fans were too eager for his hypnotizing pop and dance routines to take note that the life-altering event caused Jackson a great deal of suffering. For their part, Jackson’s professionalism, dedication, and adrenaline rush infused talent obscured his injuries.
Jackson subsequently led a life of pain and became addicted to pain killers. He received $1.5 million dollars from Pepsi for the accident which he donated to a burn center.
