As stated in a new report by the LA Times, "Police sources tell KTLA that they're making preparations for a massive public memorial for Michael Jackson Tuesday morning at Staples Center. " Plans to have the memorial at Neverland Ranch fell through.

The possible event at Staples Center is stirring criticism over how much such an event would cost the city. Sources say the LAPD has plans for a massive deployment Tuesday in preparation for a funeral service.

The family has yet to confirm any finalized memorial plans. A spokesperson for Jackson's family replied, "no comment," when asked about the service at Staples Center.

News crews descended on Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, fueled by rumors that the pop star's body could be stored there. Cemetery officials denied the rumors.

 UPDATE:

ET Online now confirms that the farewell service for Jackson will take place on Tuesday, July 7 at 10 a.m. at the Staples Center. The program will be simulcast at Los Angeles' nearby Nokia Theatre.
