Sarah Palin--Hockey Mom
Sarah Palin--Hockey Mom
Cnn

Do you know that in Japan you can walk up to a train station and scan in your schedule with your cellphone? Do you know that in Germany you can page through a magazine and if you see a recipe you like or a particular article or a list of places to go you can just swipe your phone across it and you will then have the recipe in your phone or the article or the list. You can slip your phone across a subway turnstile and board the train. Do you know you can take high speed rail in most of Europe and Japan and get just about anywhere?

America is way behind. We have become a creaky old nation telling our kids we are number one when in fact we aren't even number two three or four. We are Europe when the new World (us) bust upon the scene. So now we are trying to catch up. Now we are trying to have universal healthcare, something every developed nation in the world has. Except the United States. We are trying to rebuild our infrastructure or at least talking about it. We are trying to get a handle on Global Warming and maybe we'll even sign the treaties that every other country has signed. We have a President who wants to move us forward, but we have a problem. Sarah Palin the hockey mom.

Sarah wants America to return to something it never was. She tells people that change is bad and normal Americans can still enjoy a 1950's type of world. She tells people that healthcare reform is bad, that global warming is ridiculous, that Russia and China are our enemies. She doesn't' believe in a woman's right to choose, She doesn't believe in helping the less fortunate or spending on education where we lag the most in comparison to the industrialized nations. She believes in one religion, one people. In short, Sarah Palin doesn't believe in change,  Sarah Palin believes in Sarah Palin.

The evil of this is that at a time when the United States has a chance to really change, to address issues that have been festering for so long, Sarah has decided it is her time in the sun and she will take advantage of humans natural resistance to change. Americans are frightened and she knows this. We are going through a brutal recession, but her answer is to invoke a world that no longer exists. A world where men go to a factory job and return home to a single income household. A world where America buys American and the rest of the world be damned. A world where there are no poor people and no climate change and we are the good guys and everyone else is the bad guys. That world is a fantasy.

We live in a global community and we must compete globally. Sarah has a provincial view of the world, but she knows this is powerful and she will ride it to have her moment. She will gladly derail change for her own benefit. It takes no talent at all to turn an uncertain future into a haunted house. People don't like change and we Americans who used to embrace change have become stuck in our ways. But we must change or accept the fact we will be left in the ash heaps of nations that were once great. The best thing Sarah Palin could do for America, the land she claims to love so much, is to go back to Alaska and stay there and let America grow up.
