If you're looking for a great baby shower gift a fun choice that the new parents to be won't ever forget and will stand out in a crowd of gifts - consider a 3D ultrasound.
3D ultrasounds done around 28 to 30 weeks are amazing. I just did this for the first time at Prenatal Peek in Phoenix. Seeing what my son looks like before he's born was amazing (Check out more photos in the slide show below). I was surprised how much detail you can see and how much he already looks like my girls did when they were born and I still have 10 weeks to go (See the photo comparison in photo below).
3D ultrasounds are nothing like 2D ultrasounds, though the procedure is the same for the mom-to-be. Optional ultrasounds done at a place like Prenatal Peek are all about fun and having a good experience while mom, dad, brothers, sisters and anyone else you want to invite watch as a trained sonographer scans your stomach with a wand. At first you'll see baby in 2D, then the image changes to 3D and the show begins.
You can see whatever it is baby's up to... really see it! Sucking thumbs, rubbing eyes, acrobatics - everything! There's no guessing and kinda seeing what the tech points out like in regular ultrasounds.
One feature that I really enjoyed more than I ever thought was the DVD that Prenatal Peek makes of your session (if you select the package with it). When we got home my family gathered around and watched the whole session again, which was really fun. Plus now - can show my mom who lives a thousand miles away (literally). She's never seen a 3D ultrasound so this will be cool for her too.
And if you hadn't already found out baby's gender for whatever reason, you can do that during the session too. I like getting reconfirmation of boy or girl parts late in the game.
During my last pregnancy my doctor did a 2D scan to check my daughters size at 32 weeks. It was in no way as exciting as this 3D scan... though anytime you see any ultrasound of your baby it is comforting.
The sonographers at Prenatal Peek in Phoenix really care and it shows during your session. Their prices are very reasonable and less than other optional ultrasound facilities. I recommend them 100 percent! I previously visited Prenatal Peek at 16 weeks pregnant for a gender determination ultrasound. That was also a great experience.
