Making new parents a baby health basket is a great gift. It's practical and still can have elements of fun. Here are some ideas of cool things to include...

Corn Bag Critters are a friendly little face that is also a child-friendly and eco-friendly version of a heating pad. I love this product as much as my girls do. It's simply a bag filled with cracked corn. You pop it in the microwave and heat - but not too much. You can also put it in the freezer and use as a cool pad.

Exergen Temporal Thermometers are easy to use. They just need a second or two on baby's forehead. Tests show it is more accurate reading than taking the temperature any other way including oral, rectal, under the arm and in the ear. It is also the only thermometer manufactured in the United States.

Munchkin's The Medicator pacifier medication dispenser is an easy way to get babies and toddlers the right amount of medicine without hassle or worry of spilling. It was designed by a pediatrician and is the best-selling liquid medicine dispenser in America.

Vicks GermFree Warm Mist Humidifiers help keep little lungs moist so they can better fight off infections. They're good for every day use in dry winter months to keep baby from getting sick. This humidifier has a special UV chamber that safely kills up to 99.999% of bacteria, mold and spores. It has two tanks so you don't have to fill it every day and forget filters - this one doesn't have one, so that's less cleaning - a fabulous feature for parents that have too much other stuff to do!

Vapor-eze Waterless Vaporizers don't have the maintenance of regular vaporizers but they deliver the same benefits that help little ones breathe easier. This one uses pre-moistened aromatherapy pads. Each one can last 10 hours. The eucalyptus pads help with decongestion and the lavender ones help with sleep. Both smell great and work great in kids rooms.

MedBasics safety pack is a handy guide that covers all sorts of medical emergencies that new parents may face. It's a small bound reference that fits in any diaper bag. MedBasics was created by a dad who is a doctor and a mom who is a nurse. They wanted to ease moments of parent panic with this easy to use emergency guide. It has brightly color-coded tabs, spiral binding, simple instructions and illustrations you'll be able to handle choking, CPR, bleeding, fever emergencies and more.

Spacebabies Baby Bed Blocks can be used on cribs and beds to slightly incline them. This helps children with colds, stuffed noses and earaches. The incline helps little ones get much needed rest and is much safer than using pillows and other objects in a crib or young child's bed. These can also help babies that have reflux.

Nature's Baby Ah-Choo Chest Rub is for babies six months and up and helps relieve congestion. Its main ingredient is organic eucalyptus menthol, which relieves congestion and helps with better sleeping. I find putting a gob of this on little feet, then putting on a pair of socks underneath footed pajamas really helps kids feel better and sleep better. Plus it's organic.

Hyland's Teething Tablets are great for teething babies and are a good, natural alternative to using Tylenol. (As with anything you give to your child, get the okay from your doctor first before giving these.) These are something I always have on hand.

You may want to get a few things from a few categories for the ultimate shower gift!
