It's the hometown of our president and filled with tons of great stuff for familes... making Chicago one of the best family vacation spots in America!
Chicago has everything a family wants - great food (some of the best in the world in fact), cultural, historical, and educational things to see and do plus good old fashioned amusements... not to mention something for every type of sports fans.
Must-see things for families...
Navy Pier is the first stop for families in Chicago. On the lake with beautiful views of the city from atop the ferris wheel and fun rides below. It also holds an Imax theater, children's museum and is the launching spot for boat tours of the lake and the city's river. I'll admit that the ferris wheel here holds a special place in my heart, as it's where my husband asked me to marry him!
Wrigleyville is home to Wrigley Field which is home to the Chicago Cubs. Even if you're not Cubs fan, catching a game in this historic park is exciting. There are lots of cheap seats that still have good views. I used to live around the corner from this park and I loved going to games here. I can't wait to take my children next year! There are lots of fantastic restaurants in this area too and the lake is just a few blocks away.
Museums are endless in Chicago it seems. Of particular note: they have a fabulous natural history museum and aquarium.
And for families who love the old mobster movies and lore, they have mobster tours of Chi town. These take you around the city to places made famous by such gangsters as Al Capone.
