By now we all know that the E-Class Coupe has replaced the CLK in the Mercedes lineup. Fewer may know that the wagon and drop-top variants have been delayed. Fewer still may know that AMG currently has no plans to offer their own tuned version of the Coupe. That’s why I’m here to tell you about Brabus and what it's offering.

The Mercedes tuner has always done its part to keep itself ahead of the pack, and in many cases that means speeding off at over 200 miles per hour (the firm’s CLS Rocket can do 225 mph / 362.4 km/h). Now Brabus will help you scratch that itch of wanting the E-Class Coupe, but also wanting to go faster than those plain-jane E-Coupes in the country club.

Unlike the Rocket and Bullitt, both specialty models, Brabus is offering various parts independently so buyers can build their own E-Coupe to their specific taste, or lack thereof.

Here’s some advice: first off, you’ll want to avoid that body kit (consisting of bumpers, skirts, and LEDs) because it looks cheap and gaudy. Second, you’ll want to forget the rims (available in 17,18,19, and 20 inches), at least the ones pictured; they come off as looking way too much like hundred-dollar Tire Rack knock-offs.

Now, on to what you probably do want: the car can be upgraded with a lowering kit, or you can go all the way and spring for the coilovers (no pun intended; oh, who am I kidding, of course it was).

Then there’s the Brabus brake kit that provides 360mm vented and cross-drilled plates behind the front wheels, with 6 pistons up front and 4 in the back doing the disc-pinching (you can re-read that however you want, pervert).

As for power, well, if you opt for the stroker kit (Brabus likes to keep it old-school), displacement jumps to 6.1 liters. This €29,000 kit consists of a new crank, fresh pistons, custom cams, machined heads, and a sport exhaust system, bringing output to a very-AMG 462-horsepower and 454 lb-ft of torque that’ll reach a delimited 196 mph and pop past 60 in under 4.7 seconds.

The workings-over don’t come cheap, though, and even factoring in the 3-year / 100,000 km warranty, paying nearly the price of an SRT8 Challenger ($40,000, give or take) to upgrade an E-Class Coupe is excessive. For that money (or less) you could probably make some calls and convince the real AMG to shoehorn their 6.2 liter engine into the coupe, making something unique.

Sexy Figures:
Mercedes 5.5 liter V8 stroked to 6.1 liters by Brabus (optional)
Power: 462 horsepower
Torque: 454 lb-ft
0-100 km/h (62 mph): 4.7 seconds
Top Speed: 196 mph

The Brabus E-Coupe will fill an AMG void, but at a cost
