I am all for the news networks covering celebrity deaths to some degree as right or wrong it does matter to the average American and the news has significance to the artistic world.  Having said that, at some point the news networks have got to rein themselves in and start moving on to other topics.  The VERY extensive coverage of celibrity deaths has passed the point of appropriateness into the realm of just being ridiculous.  In the most recent episode of The Daily Show Jon Stewart does an excellent job of showing just how far the news networks have gone in trying to promote themselves with coverage of celebrity deaths.  This clip below shows Chuck Todd's attemtp to create a connection between NBC and the death of Karl Malden.  Rather than receive more awards like this from Stewart I would encourage mainstream media to start moving on from celebrity death coverage.  Perhaps I am overly optimistic however as ultimately the media outlets will cover that which gives them the highest ratings.
