Michael Jackson died on Wednesday, June 25, 2009. Seven other entertainers, including Billy Mays, also died that week, with 97 year old Karl Malden passing on July 1st. Most of them have either already been buried or there are plans to do so. Farrah Fawcett is among them. Her funeral was in Los Angeles on June 30th.
But, unlike the other celebrities who passed away, and due to "popular demand," there had to be a lottery for Michael Jackson's public memorial. The location of the memorial changed a few times, but now is settled upon to be at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. BET Awards celebrated Michael's life too.
Elizabeth Taylor and Liza Minnelli, two of Michael's true friends, shared sentiment of their lose.
Ticket registering for Michael Jackson's public memorial has not stopped since the lottery's announcement. As of last night 10,000 was the count for available tickets, now it is 8,750. Not sure which beginning count is correct, as the latter is an odd one at that.
It is that amount of people, 8,750, though, who will be randomly picked to attend the memorial service for Michael Jackson next week, Tuesday, July 7, 2009.
Beginning early Saturday morning, July 4th, fans have continued to register by the thousands. At 5:30 p.m. PT (8:30 p.m. ET) more ethan half a million people had registered.
According to Ken Sunshine, the Jackson family spokesman, the public memorial will be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
In addition to U.S. residents registering for tickets, the lottery was also open to non-U.S. residents.
