Founded in late 2008 by Pat Lazure and Rohit Keshwani, wikicity made its "net" debut last week. Of Wikicity, Co-Founder Pat Lazure said "The concept was initiated late last year, as I have always found that there is something endearing about small towns, and therefore, that is where we started building WikiCity - within towns that have historically been neglected by traditional media.  Once we got started, we decided we'd have a better story to tell if we built the site to serve all towns (with greater than 250 people) across the U.S., so that is what we did before officially launching last week." The tagline is "Welcome to WikiCity... A city wiki for every city"

Built on the usual wiki technology of open updating an addition, Lazure is looking to make a one stop shop with views of every community in the Country in time. From a tiny town such as Goldfield NV, to the major metropolitan areas such as Boston, New York and Chicago, the goal is to have them all listed. Lazure gets his data right from the sources if he is doing the updating. It is quite easy he implied, as most state governments have portals that link all of the cities, towns, boroughs, etc.

Lazure is also looking to take some business away from the "sex scandal" embattled craigslist. He added the importance of craigslist and admits to putting it to great use when he needs a quick sell. He also pointed out, that not all areas of each state are covered. His master plan here involves offering free "classified" adds in each community, but unlike the other site, the ads placed here are "humanly" moderated, instead of community moderated so there is only a slight chance of error. This also means that your add will not be deleted because someone who sells a competing product can bump you to get the sale. Now that, is true free enterprise.
