I remember when my wife and I first started looking for a house here in Silicon Valley. We had a long list of desirables. I mean, if we were going to have to pay more than half a million (stop laughing!) we wanted what we wanted. Fair enough, right?
Wrong!
We ended up bidding and losing, bidding and losing. And the more we lost, the shorter our list got until we finally were happy just to get something. For what it's worth, we do like (not love) where we ended up. And a half million wasn't nearly enough.
Imagine having to win a lottery to get a home. That's what goes on in places like India and China.
This week the results of a lottery will be announced. There is expected to be a mad dash as well as hopes fulfilled and dreams crushed.
In Florida, Texas, Pennsylvania, California and the like, it's all about the money, surplus, extra, more?
In India it's about having a roof over your head.
It reminds me of the Bible verse - Luke 9:58 - Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."
Jesus had no house. I wonder, did he ever enter the lottery?
