   A favorite Bible verse for almost all Christian athletes is

Hebrews 12:1

- Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses...

So many folk have gone before us (athletes), runners, cyclists, ball players of all sports. Many of these folk now sit in the stands, many of them victorious, many of them satisfied to have competed, many of them happy to have completed their course. All of them able to identify with the participants of the day.

The crowds cheer, they encourage, they applaud, they criticize, they spur on. When the crowds are there the participants on the field love it and try harder.

The Wimbledon Tennis tourney is going on in England. It keeps the masses quite entertained and the participants are thrilled to have viewers.

It is the dream of the Christian to have this many folk - the participants and players to join them in the marathon race to eternal life. There is already a cloud of witnesses that have completed that course and they are cheering us on.
