As you can see, the inline six cylinder setup when properly modified can build boost almost instantaneously. This is a huge advantage over the average vehicle and is why street racers love the Supra. The short travel of gases helps spool the turbo quickly, feeding extreme amounts of compressed air into the intake manifold. The intake and exhaust manifolds are relatively short thanks to the inline cylinder setup, reducing turbo lag time greatly and increasing the efficiency of the pressurized air entering the combustion chamber. Only the inline cylinder setup allows the shortest distance of air travel creating more power than V or horizontally opposed engines.

The Toyota Supra is a favorite of tuners not only because of the inline six cylinder setup, but also the stock transmission is strong enough to handle anywhere from 600 to 1000 horsepower.
