HLN (formerly Headline News) will be broadcasting the Michael Jackson Live starting at 12:30 pm ET / 9?30 pm Pacific. The memorial at Staples Center in Los Angeles starts at 10:00 AM Pacific Time, so the
HLN coverage will start before the service for the King of Pop.
HLN coverage will be led by morning anchor Robin Meade, (Morning Express with Robin Meade followed by A.J. Hammer (Showbiz Tonight) and Jane Velez-Mitchell (Issues) with Jane Velez-Mitchell .
There were 17,000 tickets given free to people who have won the ticket lottery. Regrets were sent by email to the applicants who were not selected. Approximately 1.6 million people applied for tickets to the landmark event. Lucky people who were awarded tickets have been notified and will be able to pick up their tickets and wristbands today.
Concert organizers and Los Angeles city officials are strongly encouraging non ticket holders to stay home and watch the memorial on television, as they will not be able to get into the service. The entire area around the Staples Center will be cordoned off, so people without tickets will not event be able to get into the vicinity. There is no reason to go to Staples Center without a ticket, as there will be no outdoor broadcast and there will be no funeral procession.
Michael Jackson, 50, had a phenomenal career. According the the stats listed on the CNN website, Jackson on 13 Grammys, was nominated for 37 Grammys and had 13 Number 1 Best Hits in the US. Jackson's best selling album was Thriller, which has sold 27 million albums. His death has shocked people around the world, who have been paying tributes since his death on June 25.
