Monster fakes a sick day from work to make the rally.

Your typical Thursday afternoon involves making expensive mistakes in the cafeteria and daydreaming through another novice PowerPoint. Well, prepare to mix it up this Thursday, September 24th when you tell your typical routine to stick it, so you can stop by the King County Courthouse to show your support for precious tiny baby kitties – and the other 1,000 animals that could end up homeless in King County each month.

Seattle animal advocates are coming together Thursday from 10 AM to 2 PM at the park on the south side of the courthouse in a display of support for keeping King County Animal Care and Control open!

The rally comes a week before County Executive Kurt Triplett presents a 2010 budget to the county council that would propose the closure of King County Animal Care and Control, a facility that takes in around 1,000 homeless animals per month that would otherwise be roaming the streets. KCACC also performs numerous animal control services across King County.

The rally will be a positive and peaceful opportunity to let Triplett and the council know that not having an open-admission, public animal shelter and services is not an option.

Feeling crafty? Why not put together a tasteful sign to carry at the rally? Be sure to choose a slogan that is respectful and free from disturbing images or inaccurate or negative statements. Here are some sample ideas to get your creative juices flowing:

• Keep the Shelter Open
• KOPS (Keep Our Public Shelter)
• We Heart Our Animal Shelter
• 12,000 Homeless Pets Need a Public Shelter
• Where Will You Go To Find Your Lost Pet?
• Don't Throw Away Our Animals
• Animals Need Our Voice

So, let’s review. Should your crappy lunch plans trump Mr. Fuzzywig’s future? Is your BS board meeting more rewarding than saving tiny baby kittens from a cruel back-alley fate? If yes, you will have to atone by driving to Kent later this fall to attend the second rally. (Sorry, tell it to the tiny baby kittens.) You can learn of more ways to help the paws cause by joining the Facebook group “Stop King County from Closing Animal Control and Shelter.

And don’t forget to email a councilmember to tell them why the heck they can’t close the shelter!
The King County Courthouse is located at 516 Third Avenue, Seattle, WA 98104. Even if you can only join us for 10 minutes, please come out and show your support – see you there!
