You, too, can be a star at the 2010 Olympics thanks to Newwest Special Projects LP which has chartered the NCL (Norwegian Cruise Lines) Star for accommodations at the 2010 Olympics. Read on to find out how to be a star.
In an exclusive interview, Dennis Laliberte talked about why Newwest came up with this idea and how he implemented it. Dennis saw a need for accommodations in Vancouver for the 2010 Olympics and thought a cruise ship docked at the pier would make a marvelous hotel as well as an ultimate Olympics destination.
He looked at several cruise lines’ ships, their meeting facilities and their style of accommodating guests. NCL, with the “Freestyle” cruising, number of lounges and restaurants, and meeting facilities came out on top for the style, logistics and opportunity. Dennis is very excited about this offering, whether booked through travel agents or direct with Newwest. He is generous with the travel agencies who want to book with his organization and he is open to almost any idea.

So how do you become a star at the Olympics? This is a concept for lovers of the Olympics who want to be a star in the eyes of their special someone by getting engaged or married on board the NCL Star while at the 2010 Olympics. Whether you have tickets to special events or not, the Olympic events, with both Canadian feeds and US feeds, will be televised in commons areas, even with large screens in some locations, so you never miss a moment of action. You and the partner of your dreams can have that special moment in conjunction with your favorite event running in the background. Newwest has a meetings coordinator and NCL has a wedding coordinator, both of whom can help you orchestrate that special moment perfectly.

As well as your wedding, you can add in a bachelor/bachelorette party, a rehearsal dinner, a reception or just have a quiet wedding for only two. The Star can accommodate pretty much any type of request. For every 10 cabins, based on double occupancy, reserved in a group, the 11th cabin is free. So arranging your wedding, for example, with 20 of your closest friends and family, in a block of 10 cabins, will give you, the bridal couple, free accommodations. With a qualifying group, there is also the ability to purchase a beverage package for each person which will include alcoholic beverages for the entire stay on board. This creates a truly all-inclusive experience for your wedding & guests. As you go from your wedding straight to your honeymoon onboard the Star, you have access to the spa facilities, world class shopping and dining, whether on board or in Vancouver, the Olympic events and superb entertainment, nightlife and movies.
The Olympics happen to be taking place during the most romantic month of the year, February, and celebrating Valentine’s Day will be a part of the experience on board the Star. Dennis mentioned there will be special menus in the specialty restaurants (and possibly packages for purchase) to celebrate both Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day. Can you imagine how it will be when you are starring in your own romantic moments on board the NCL Star in Vancouver BC in 2010?
