The scheduled prison visit by Tony Dungy occurred today in Leavenworth, Kansas when Dungy had a personal meeting with Michael Vick.
When asked about it during the broadcast of the NFL Draft last month, the former Colts head coach said he expected to stay off the topic of football and stick to other life issues such as what Michael will face after his prison term ends.
Although there was speculation that Dungy would conduct an interview for broadcast it was never intended to be anything like that.
Vick's agent Joel Segal said this:
"The discussions were private, but the meeting was very positive."
As previously reported, Commissioner Goodell expects to see something from Vick that gives him the sense that he is truly remorseful. Since Dungy has a reputation as a good and trustworthy man, a vote of confidence by him would go a long way with Goodell. Dungy told media that he had gotten to know Vick when the Colts played a game against the Falcons in Japan.
Vick would be well served if he takes to heart advice about how to confront his upcoming challenges with humility and lack of hubris. Dungy is the perfect person to drive that message home.
