HBO's new series, "Hung", is about a guy who is, well, hung. The dark comedy focuses on a down-on-his-luck, middle-aged man named Ray (Thomas Jane) who figures out that being well-endowed is his golden ticket.
Ray is a high school football coach who uses his pavement-scraping trouser snake to his advantage. It's the one thing that has always been his biggest asset, so he decides to use it to make some money by becoming a gigilo.
Despite the title, HBO insists the show is not all about Ray's horse penis. “Our strategy was to focus on the more unexpected aspects of the story,” said Chris Spadaccini, vice president of advertising and promotion. “Ray is becoming a male gigolo because he has to, not because he wants. And we really wanted the audience to empathize with this man who is willing to do whatever it takes to turn his life around.”
The show is co-created by Colette Burson and Dmitry Lipkin. "Think of him [Ray] like Spider-Man," Burson told Variety. "He's an average guy who gets in touch with his innate super powers."
Lipkin called the show a "comedy with a lot of heart."
