President Obama visited Los Angeles yesterday for a Democratic National Committee fundraiser, and LGBT activists and allies took the opportunity to show their frustration over Obama's silence and inaction on issues of LGBT equality.
Former 1st Lt. Dan Choi, founder of Knights Out, who was recently discharged under the military's Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy, led chants of "full equality now" and "civil rights now" as the president arrived with his motorcade at the Beverly HIlton for the fundraiser.
Lt. Choi has been featured prominently in the media recently after publicly coming out on the Rachel Maddow Show. He told CNN that he will continue to speak out against DADT until the policy is repealed.
The demonstration was meant to remind President Obama and his administration of his campaign promises to the LGBT population, and the lack of any steps being taken towards fulfilling those promises.
Equal Roots, which organized the demonstration, said,
We want to hear from our President.
We want FULL FEDERAL EQUALITY.
Rick Jacobs of Courage Campaign was a featured speaker along with Lt. Choi.
