Z Gallerie closes after 14 years
The recession has hit in Larimer Square- hard. This week the downtown location of
Z Gallerie is liquidating their entire store stock, sending their merchandise and even store fixtures out the door at desperate prices. The 2-story contemporary home furnishings and accessories retailer has been open at the corner of 15th and Larimer for over 14 years, but is now closing its doors for good.
The Larimer Square store is one of 25 locations being shut down nationwide in response to the deteriorating economy. This is no small matter- the doomed stores account for about a third of Z Gallerie's total locations. The California-based company was founded in 1979 by three siblings and is still family-owned. Right now they are attempting to remain competitive by eliminating their lower-performing outlets- which apparently includes the long-standing Downtown Denver shop.
As of right now, there is no tenant lined up to replace Z Gallerie, so after the last ceramic Buddha or sequined napkin ring leaves the building Larimer Square's largest retail space will become one of a growing number of abandoned storefronts downtown and everywhere.
