The sound of falling water has always helped me to relax, during times of stress.  I had this CD containing a selection of various water sources, rain, waterfalls, etc.  However, it does not fix the problem I have in dealing with stress at work, family problems or for that matter driving in traffic. Woujldn't it be wonderful if there was a magic pill that was relieve stress without side effects?  Well, there is!

I did not know enough about the benefits of Vitamin B3 or Niacin, until I decided to research a product I had been taking. It is called, ‘True Calm.’ The name lives up to its reputation. I do feel calmer after taking one capsule. The effects are immediate.

Yesterday, my husband, Ron, was complaining about a headache, right after he got up in the morning. I had just been reading about the importance of Niacin and noticed that ‘True Calm,’ had Niacin listed as an important ingredient. Besides, the headache, Ron had been complaining off and on about digestive problems and trouble sleeping. Hmm…could it that he does not have enough Niacin in his system?

I offered one capsule and he swallowed it down with a glass of water. Now, Ron, seldom states when he is feeling better, but one sure knows when he is not!

Thirty minutes later, Ron offered to make breakfast. He wanted to try a new recipe from the book, “Cooking Yourself Thin.” Perhaps, today, I will offer him another capsule after he gets up this morning.

Besides, Niacin or Vitamin B3 providing relief to a headache, this amazing vitamin helps to metabolize fats, proteins and carbohydrates and that's what is needed in losing weight!  In addition, this single vitamin helps more than 50 enzymes to function properly.

Niacin or vitamin B3 has an interesting effect on the arteries, too! First, this vitamin helps the arteries widen, which enables blood to circulate more easily. Also, because Niacin lowers the body's bad (LDL) cholesterol levels, it helps prevent plaque from forming and building-up on artery walls. The result is improved blood flow which reduces the risk of heart attack.

Vitamin B3 plays also a major role in keeping the body's nervous system, digestive tract and overall mental well-being functioning properly. Healthy skin requires a regular supply of this vitamin. And finally, it's also required in order to produce various hormones including progesterone and testosterone.

Vitamin B3 is water soluble, which means it is absorbed in water and needs to be constantly resupplied. The body does have the ability to produce a very small quantity of Niacin, but this amount is not enough to meet daily intake requirements. The rest must be supplied either by food or by supplementation.

Sources of Vitamin B3

Niacin is found in more animal products than plant products. Good sources of this vitamin include organ meats (kidney, liver), lean meats, pork, prawns, tuna and even milk from a cow.

Some of the other sources include seeds and almonds, wheat products, beans, green vegetables, turnips, carrots, and celery.

The overall best source of vitamin B3 can be found in tuna.  Here's a great recipe for grilling tuna.  YUM!
