The following is an open letter addressed to President Obama, the American people, and Congress. It is my intention as Cochise County 2010 Elections Examiner to provide as much information about candidates in and directly affecting Cochise County. TheCongressional District 8 races directly affect Cochise County and make it extremely important to continue publishing everything on everyone that I possibly can. It is unfortunate that at this time CD8 Congressman Gifford's has declined to participate.
Wednesday night, President Obama delivered a milquetoast address to the nation. He reminded Democrats they still have a huge majority in which to bully the opposition in Congress and the rest of America. What surprised me are the unmitigated gall and his contempt for Republicans when he stated if anyone had better ideas than his he is ready to listen. Huh? Isn't that precisely what conservatives and indeed, AMERICANS, have been doing for about a year now? Here are my ideas, Mr. President. I am running for
as a fiscal conservative and as someone who recognizes that for the most part, integrity, and accountability are largely absent in our Congress. It does not take a Harvard degree to understand that when you spend more than you take in, bankruptcy is soon to follow.
We have to bring back businesses that left America for better tax law in other countries. Offer them all 18 months of no corporate tax so they can pick up shop, move back to America, and bring their jobs with them. For all businesses currently in America, cut the corporate rate to 15%, stand by, and watch unemployment plummet like your approval ratings.
Americans are tired of dreading April 15. They are tired of hunting down receipts, finding out what they can and cannot deduct and crossing their fingers as they do their tax returns. They are tired of the stress and hours lost and money spent to comply with a tax code that is over 9 million words. They are tired of the IRS answering their tax questions incorrectly 1 out of every 4 phone calls. Allow us to do as other countries have and adopt a flat tax. More specifically, a 15% flat tax. Then sit back and watch the economy fix itself. Watch people invest and spend more disposable income.
STOP SPENDING! You cannot start every year with a new budget and ignore the deficits from the year before. Stop printing money and adding to what is destined to become colossal inflation. No more money to the IMF, the United Nations, Mexico, or any other nation. We cannot afford it. Scrap this ridiculous stimulus plan and either refund that money to Americans or apply it directly to our deficit.
Get out of the banking business. Many of the banks that were misguided and accepted bailout money have repaid it with interest. Get out of their business and let them lend responsibly and at their discretion. They are free to reward their employees in the manner they see fit. Your war on profits is crippling the financial sector.
Health care, no matter how much you wish it to be, is not a right. To improve it is not terribly complicated. Allow Americans to purchase insurance in any state. Eliminate the over 1,900 federal mandates on insurance and allow individuals design their own plans. Allow some tort reform. Encourage more retail health clinics, which are fabulously successful precisely because they are NOT federally regulated. No more benefits for those in our country illegally. Then stand back and watch the market correct itself.
These are proposals you can absolutely take to the bank if I am elected to replace Gabrielle Gifford’s. I will write these bills and get the necessary support because 2010 is going to be the year of the conservative at the ballot box. The people in District 8 of Arizona demand common sense and solutions that work. The above five solutions are simple and will work now. The best thing about them is they do not cost a penny but will pay huge dividends. The ball is in your court, Mr. President.
