The Brian Morris saga is over. He resigned over the weekend. I hope the school system uses the $175k it just saved for something productive. Good luck to Mr. Morris.

Before the Morris saga ended our city council president (who many of us just call Stephanie) made a statement about the saga that we should all take a moment to study. According to the Baltimore Sun, Stephanie said the following on the Anthony McCarthy Show on radio station WEAA (read about Mr. McCarthy's own financial problems here) :

"He is a professional. … Many of the top-level positions were created for individuals and not advertised. But we are living in a city where a brown person can't get that treatment. If a job is created for one of us, your credentials are questioned, your background is questioned, the process is questioned"

Why should the government create useless $175k jobs out of the blue at the expense of our youth?  This is not a race thing and Stephanie should never have ventured there.   She is never going to be able to defeat Mayor Dixon if she continues to open her mouth and spew ignorant statements like that one.  You can not run a city by throwing all financial logic out of the window and complaining about race.  I do not fully understand why she would want to change the topic like this. A part of me thinks she was just trying to say what she thought the audience would want to hear and that she thought it would never be heard beyond that radio audience.

On the other hand in that same article Delegate Jill Carter had this to say:

"The question should be directed at the decision makers: Schools are closing and other staff is being laid off ... yet we can afford to create this new position for someone of questionable qualifications?"

Delegate Carter also said the Morris appointment "smacks of cronyism".

Remind me again why Delegate Carter recieved virtually no media coverage during the last election while Stephanie's name and face were all over the place?  I am glad to see that Carter's voice of  logic is at least being given some press now.  I find it quite appropriate that her statement was used to counter Stephanie's insane one.
