Bedrooms and their function in our lives are essential to overall good health. Since we spend a great deal of our lives devoted to sleep,  having a bedroom that caters to all of our creature comforts and physical needs is of great importance.

Lighting
-The best lighting for a bedroom during the day time is natural. This is natural positive energy and is great for those who like to spend time in their rooms during the day reading or doing office work. If at all possible to keep the right energy in the bedroom, home offices should be located elsewhere. In the evening, diffused lighting, or lights that can be dimmed are optimal.

Furnishings- Furniture must be in proper scale with the room if it is to aid in creating positive energy flow. Many times homeowners put beds far too large for the space in their room, and the flow of the room is hindered. Always try to achieve a clearance between bed and walls or furniture of at least 3-5 feet, anything less is definitely an out of scale piece. If you have a room that has furniture too big and you can't replace it any time soon, it is imperative that you keep other furniture scaled down, remove some and at the very least keep visual clutter to a minimum to give the feeling of openness. Besides a slightly smaller bed, does pull two people closer, doesn't it?

Bedding- It is always a good idea to go for either simple casual, or simple elegance. The keyword here is simple. Too ornate, too colorful, too busy, are all words that do not lend themselves to rest, tranquility or passion. Bedding is all about physical comforts and sensations above all else. It must be visually appealing, but it also must feel wonderful to the touch. A good quality mattress is the ideal start for how to achieve positive physical energy. One that is made to offer you optimum comfort and support will always be a good value for your mind and body. Good quality sheets are always nice with emphasis on coolness and wrinkle resistance. Good quality is easily found these days even in regular department stores. A thread count of around 400 is more than enough since most people tested said they can discern no difference beyond that thread count regardless of what manufacturers tout. Comforters should be light on weight, but not overly cheap. I have a real liking for down alternative comforters, and duvets which can be laundered readily. I also love soft sumptuous micro suede which is everywhere now. Think of your bedding in terms of a cloud you will drift on. Soft and billowy and comforting. Keep colors soft and neutral, add splashes of color with the pillows.

Color
- A room and the energy can be drastically affected by the color choices used. Bright bold warm colors are stimulating and evoke passion but at the same time can overwhelm. This is why in a bedroom it should be used in small doses as opposed to large amounts. Passion is wonderful yet, rest is often needed equally if not more. Great passion is often followed by the need for great rest and so colors need to be a little subdued to yield this better. To know which colors may bring you the comfort and solace you need at the end of the day, ask yourself these questions. "Where do I love to go the most?" Is it the beach? Is it a river? A lake? The forest ? All of these places in the environment provoke a feeling within you. As such, they also happen to be colorful. Keeping this in mind, pick three colors you see commonly in these environments and use them to apply to your color pallet. Keep in mind softer neutrals should be the dominant color, with the brighter, and darker shades used in accents and trim.

Sounds
- Our hearing is another part of the senses that need to be nurtured for good positive energy and well being. During mild seasons, be sure to add wind chimes outside your bedroom window for a calm and peaceful feeling. Small indoor water fountains can also help. White noise and music that is soft and soothing also are more ways to soothe your ears, and bring about peace. Try different cds with sounds of the Forrest, ocean or storms to help aid in your relaxation.

Smells- Smells are one of the key factors in our minds ability to remember. Pleasant smells often induce happy memories, calmness and a sense of well being. Candles that are scented with smells that occur in nature often help the most, such as Lavender which is well known for aiding in comfort. Scented oils that are calming not overwhelming or strong are great to dab on your light bulbs to infuse your bedroom with a nice smell. Trying varying combinations that are mild is something you can try as well. Do not use scents that smell like food however, as this may induce a false sense of hunger and cause you to eat during times of rest which is counterproductive long term and of course not good for the positive energy within. Part of having fresh natural smells in your room can also be achieved during seasonal weather by of course keeping your room aired out with natural breezes and hanging your linens out on a clothes line. Most people agree that the smell of linens that are line dried are wonderful and help them rest better.
