Here is your opportunity to take a virtual tour on the Summer International Food Show that was held the beginning of this week in New York City. Foods from around the world as well national are spotlighted, sampled and promoted. As an experienced attendee taster, I tend to stick with the savory items, not the sweets.
There was a preponderance of olive oils from all over the world, cheese lovers overdosed with too many choices and chocolate in all types of permutations, even tea-infused.
Honeys seem to be hot, whether straight or in combination with other products – honey is the buzz word. The honey category had a 25% increase over last’s year show. I tasted honeys from New Zealand to Virginia and didn’t scratch the hive.
Gluten-free items are definitely on the increase. Coffee vendors seemed to be down with an upsurge in tea purveyors.
Can you say bacon? Bacon salt, bacon lollipops and bacon lip balm along with chocolate with bacon.
There were some key exhibitors missing this year and some in booths ½ their normal size. The organic section of years passed has disappeared with all product booths intermingled.
Mexico’s pavilion really grew this year, a strong effort to make their mark in specialty foods. There are video interviews to come with specific food focuses as well as a couple food celebrities.
