
A new trend is making its way into the world of evangelical Christianity. The internet church has arrived. This new form of "church" is providing a way for people to "do church" online. Advocates say this is a way to reach people that won't be reached by the traditional church. Opponents argue that real church life requires face-to-face interaction.
USA Today has an interesting article about this newest incarnation of church life.
Comments left online range from criticism of the Protestant Reformation "Look what the Reformation has left the world. Do I hear an amen.com?" Actually, a pretty clever little question, to the accusation that this is a way for pastors to avoid people, "Yeah, preachers love this. Now they don't have to lower themselves to have to actually meet with the people that support them.
I wonder how helpful it will really be. It seems to me people tend to be something other than their real selves online.
I applaud any efforts to communicate the gospel to people. Time will tell if this is just a wild hair scheme that will die off or the future of church.
