What was once thought of as a rowdy, but hard-hitting group of reporters has turned into bunch of mushy, star-struck semi-adults who are more interested in how the President's wife's garden is growing than scrutinizing the Obama administration and the daily decisions being made that will effect the lives of Americans for years to come.

The Washington Press Corp is the most blatant example that journalism is dying, if not already dead, in the United States.  There is constant evidence that those who used to be called journalists are involved with an incestuous relationship with Obama and his administration.

Gone are the days when it was worth watching the White House briefings because at least one "zinger" would be asked by some reporter who was looking for hard news, not pap. Perhaps each one of them should be given a bib to wear at press conferences to catch their slobbering over Obama so it doesn't splatter on their notebooks.

One excuse seems to be that they have fallen for the line that if one criticizes President Obama, it is beng racist.  It worked all through the presidential campaign and has only intensified since then.

There is lesson for the Washington Press Corp in the recent ratings for the prime time appearance of President Obama.  In February, about 50 million people tuned in to hear him, in March, his news conference drew 40 million, and in April it dropped to 29 million.

Another is that MSNBC, with a commentator who gets a thrill up his leg when Obama appears, is losing audience share to Fox News's commentators such as Bill O'Reilly, Glen Beck and Hannity on almost  daily. In fact, that TV station alone has seen 50% of its audience disappear since last fall.

While there is some nostalgia for the reporters of the past, the ones who could be expected to watch over and report back to the American people using hard hitting questions of who ever was President at the time, the present group of patsies passing as journalists are now considered an extension of political spin used by those who know how to manipulate them.

Perhaps it is time for the Washington Press Corp to remember the words of Edward R. Murrow, who left a legacy of integrity.

We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. When the loyal opposition dies, I think the soul of America dies with it.

We cannot make good news out of bad practice.

We cannot defend freedom abroad by deserting it at home.

Our major obligation is not to mistake slogans for solutions.

To be persuasive we must be believable; to be believable we must be credible; credible we must be truthful.
